I've had a few weeks with the Benchmade Bugout 535GRY-1. The factory edge came sharp, but asymmetrical. This video is showing me use my Lansky to get the edge of the blade in better balance.

Defensive Rifle Skill Builder Class - Personal Takeaways from the class

I recently took a class titled "Defensive Rifle Skill Builder" with JP ( @ctpistolclass1211 ) here in CT and wanted to go over some of my personal takeaways from the class. This video is done more for my own personal growth tracking, but I'm making it public with the hope that someone can also find benefit from these points. HK45C, Part 2 - LEM trigger compared to DA/SA

More of the HK45C! This gun just keeps getting better. I bought it used almost 10 years ago and it just went to its second class. Zero issues and still a tack driver (provided you can do your part). In this video I'll break down some of what makes the LEM trigger special compared to the standard DA/SA variant. For those of you who live in a state that limits you to 10 rounds in a magazine, and ...
Glock 43 vs 43X - and do I need a red dot?
Переглядів 1042 місяці тому
I have carried a Glock 43 (standard size, not the 43X) for almost two years, but like many other people who have purchased these micro 9mm pistols, rarely shot it. When I did take it to the range, I haven't been able to reliably shoot it well. So I wondered, what would help more: do I get a G43 with a red dot OR get a 43X for a better grip? Maybe both? Is one pistol is more accurate and easy to...
Gun Stats: Gun Ownership vs Violent Crime Rates (very high level overview)

The relation between gun ownership and violent crime is not very well studied. EDC Update, 2023 - Lone Wolf Timberwolf
6 years later and your video is still blessing us. I just bought my first shotgun and wanted to make sure I was loading and unloading correctly. Thank you for the video.
@@rickydouglas30 thank you, that means a lot! Be safe and train with the new scattergun. They definitely have a steeper learning curve than something semiautomatic, but they'll reward the hard work you spend in spades.
Reardon for the win. Basically all my cans are direct thread. There fkr i just bout one 1/2x28 , 1.375x24 hub.mount so i can just put all my 30cal cans on my 556. Other than that i can direct thread all my 30cal cans to everything else i got. I almost bought a rearden md for each pew pew plus the atlas then i remmber i only have one setup i have to cater to which is 556
@@cameronmills3414 I'm liking the idea of direct thread more and more. I'll be direct threading a can to a short 300 blk in the future. If the Keymo and direct thread are totally opposite ends of the spectrum, the Rearden is right in the middle.
Do you think ct will take on the same ban that Massachusetts just passed ? Also what is the best assault weapon to purchase now can you make a video they have some that are fixed or non fixed with a shotgun stock lol want your input
I don't see any end in sight for CT and similar states pushing the bounds of what they can get away with in regards to assault weapon bans. CT has had some form of a ban since 1994 and has continued to ratchet tighter every few years since 2013. As far as what you can currently get in the state, TBH I'm not a fan of any of the "compliant" rifles so far. Too much untested technology to fix a problem that we wouldn't have if more people would get out and be politically active for gun rights. Personally, I'd recommend to get good with a semi-auto shotgun for long-gun protection around the home, carry a decent handgun (prioritize shootability, even if that means concealing a G19 with a neutered magazine), and have a good bolt-action or lever-action rifle for those times when ranges push beyond where you can be effective with the shotgun. Grab a suppressor for the bolt or lever gun while you're at it, because you can still rock those. ARs are more popular than shotguns for people in free states for a good reason; they're much easier to lug around and shoot. That said, if you put in the time and develop the physical strength, a 12ga with 00-buck will totally dominate inside of 20 yards.
@@rjg02005 I just bought a semi auto shotgun last month got a benelli clone mt1014 I think it’s called but I only ask about I lowkey want one lol someone was telling me to build my own

@@joshuawilson371 looks like link to the portal is gone. SLFU is usually not bad with a phone call if you want to check status, but I have yet to hear back from anyone with a cert in hand. I submitted mine in November and no news here.
This was awesome. I'm moving from Texas to CT soon (grew up in NY and moving back home). Been watching a lot of your content - and man I'm in for a rude awakening.
Yeah I was sad too for a sec when the iridium came out and SMOKED MY BUGOUT for the money lol but the bugout gets way smoother…. Although I got mine a while ago for like 135-140$ and I thought it was a little over priced then 120$ all day. It kills anyways tho I love benchmade best tho since like yyeeeeeeaaaarsss ago USA!
@@user-og5ff4rj7c someone clued me in that you can usually find bugouts a little cheaper locally than online, I got mine for $120. The iridium is a great buy, and the blade on mine was ground significantly better than the bugout from the factory. I am starting to experience some vibration in the bearings though, might switch it with a set of washers instead. I'm just now getting to know some of Benchmade's offerings and like what I see. Kershaw has some great foreign-made options for much cheaper and their USA blades are usually great as well. I need to get my hands on a Bel Air and see how that stacks up.
Surgical tasks?!? The fuuuuck homie!
Does the atlas mount need to be torque certain lbs when attaching the can?
@@cadedavis2188 rearden recommends rocksett and 15-25 ft*lb torque between the muzzle device and the barrel. Once the adapter is mounted into the suppressor, just hand tighten the can onto the mount and it'll stick plenty. I've taken mine out a few times, including one class, and it has always been a deliberate action to remove the can from the seat on the muzzle device.
Also, I used a tiny bit of rocksett between the adapter and my suppressor body. Probably not necessary, but it's added peace of mind.
I can understand the length and weight arguments .. in that regard the Rearden wins for sure. Some concerns for me though are the can not loosening while shooting as well as being able to quickly take the suppressor off of one rifle and put it on another while at the range ... I think in this regard the DeadAir wins.
Very simple. Allow citizens to carry whatever and how much ammo capacity they want. If your a criminal and get caught with any gun you get life in prison. The whole game will change. Simple simple simple. What's so hard?
so we are talking about grams of weight, then proceeds to show rifle that has back up iron sights and flashlight that are rarely if ever used. 💁🏽 I love my keymo. turning that rear mount 11 times wild to me.
@@2657296 everything's a compromise. Keymo is definitely quicker, but for my intended use, I don't think rapid attachment or detachment of a suppressor is going to win the day.
Thank you.
Same 🤘
If your barrel link drops out that easily, you have a problem.
The hole on the barrel lug end is oversized. Thankfully when it's assembled there's no way for the link to come out in the gun and hasn't caused an issue with function. There are a few ways to shrink the ID of the hole in the lugs to get a tighter fit, I might do that some day just so I don't lose the pin as easily when I'm tearing the gun down.
@@rjg02005 Brownell's and Midway sell oversized link pins.
When you attach your atlas mount to your can do you add any rocksett or loctite to the threads? My reardens lock down so good that the can unthreads itself when trying to switch hosts
@@fnjay24 I rocksett all of my muzzle devices to the barrel and put a tiny bit of rocksett in the mount-to-can threads. The threads on the can side probably won't need it if you torque the mount down properly, but I did it for added peace of mind because I don't really plan on swapping mounts that often going forward.
did you mean a chamfer a fillet is an increase in size and you claim to be an engineer, not buying it
Misspoke. The fillet tool in solidworks is what I'd use to make a breakedge feature, so that's where my brain went. These links do not have machined chamfers.
Good info. Thanks
The biggest downfall to the rearden device and other threaded taper mounts are the exposure of the finer threads. If you mess up those threads your can will not go on well. ASR has coarser threads (more durable). I invested heavily into keymo but have other mounting systems.
Great concise and very clear video on how to load and unload this shotgun!
WHAT MAKES YOU AN EXPERT?
@@jquint57 I don't claim to be an expert.
Gotta em both. Love em both
Ha!! I marked my KeyMo with green paint also. It just made sense to do that. I use Xeno and KeyMo. The KeyMo is always impossible to get off at the range after 60+ rounds. It ends up unscrewing at the hub mount.
A dull knife is always better than a sharp one
That's the answer a Redcoat would give.
Looks like crap
It shoots better though. If I cared more about the looks I would have paid more than zero dollars. To each their own.
*cuts the product* i need a refund!!!
Great video. Very informative.
Which muzzle device is better to use for a suppressor? The Rearden flash hider or muzzle brake? I’m unsure of those 2 which one to pick. I’m definitely going to be buying an Atlas thread adapter. I’m just unsure which muzzle device works best for a suppressor. I’ve heard a muzzle brake works better but wanted to ask in the comment section. Thanks!
If you've got a suppressor mounted, I don't think it matters much either way. I'd choose more based on the shooting you plan to do when you don't have a can on the rifle. If there is a possibility of indoors or in proximity to other people (within about 6' or so) I'd recommend a flash hider. If it's a range-toy only, then a brake is great for that extra bit of recoil reduction.
@@rjg02005 hey I appreciate the response!! I do plan to keep it on there most of the time and then I didn’t know if the muzzle break disperse the gas in the suppressor better or not! Thank you!
@@WantDaSmoke a direct mount will give you the most internal volume. People say a brake will act as a "sacrificial baffle" and prolong your suppressor life but I don't think that's very realistic for what most shooters are able to put through their guns in a lifetime.
The ledge on the inside of the slide adapter is to catch a GEN 3 to GEN 4 guide rod adapter, my OEM Glock 19 guide rod and spring fit perfectly fine with the adapter on a Glock 26 frame
No thanks on that unsafe mod, just leave the gun alone or buy another if you have to do kooky mods on it and I bet no law enforcement agency uses that mod.

Brand new 407c green dot. Have the 32 MOA circle dot from the unboxing. First trip to range and can’t get it to switch to 2 MOA dot using the 507c instructions. Will try replacing battery tomorrow. BTW I called Holosun and they didn’t have a clue. Said to ship it back to Amazon seller
The only time I noticed the issue was when I took the video, and the circle went away after swapping the battery. My best guess is that a very narrow range of voltages does something funky with the circuit board. Hope you don't need a replacement. Let me know how it turns out, if you don't mind.
Changed out battery and I still have the circle dot. Not sure whether to return it or see if I like the circle dot reticle
Looks good. Maybe try the isosceles shooting position/stance, which will help you use your hips as a turret, making you more balanced, and squared, to your target. It will help you be more comfortable, too. Of course, nothing wrong with the weaver stance, just not as natural. As long as you get the job done safely, which you did here, you do you. Keep it up. 🇺🇸💪🏻
Thanks again! Stance was the first thing I noticed from this video. I didn't feel particularly stable shooting that drill. I'll definitely be practicing!
Got my first can ( q trash panda ) in April and I’m really digging the cherry bomb taper mounting system. As long as you install it correctly there’s no need to worry about it breaking loose with the suppressor. I’m looking at getting the OCL polonium and will definitely be going with the Plan B system. I see no advantage in the QD systems that allow a maybe 3-5 second faster attachment of the suppressor when you’re constantly worrying about if the suppressor is actually tight on the gun or not
My next can is likely to be a Polonium K. I did a class this past weekend and the can came off the flash hider without an issue at the end.
@@rjg02005 any opinion on if polonium or polonium k would be better on 11.5”?
@@msquared9605 I don't have experience with either the full size polonium or the K. I will say that in the class I just attended, two guys had surefire suppressors, one was a full size and the other was a mini. The full size suppressed both flash and sound much better than the mini, but the mini did a pretty solid job of taking the edge off the concussion, despite the gas flame that ejected from the front of the can with each trigger pull. Both were on sub-16" barreled uppers. (My Enticer S suppressed better than both, btw.) That said, 5.56 is still plenty loud, even with the best suppressors available. Therefore I'm mostly concerned with taking the edge off so I don't entirely blow out my hearing if I have to rip off a handful of rounds indoors without earpro.
@@rjg02005 good points. I’m still waiting to decide between polonium and rc2 but one being under half the price is a pretty good selling point lol my 30cal trash panda suppresses my 16” 5.56 well under hearing safe so I’m not all that worried about trying to get every bit of performance out of a 5.56 dedicated can. Especially for the money, I don’t think it’s possible to be dissatisfied with anything from Otter Creek
Good work. I want to take a tactical AR course in CT, but I have a rod and screws in my ankle. Best I can do is walk with a limp.
Every instructor I've taken classes from has been very understanding of physical limitations of students, and one instructor had a handicap himself. I personally learn so much better in classes than at the range. Besides, if running away from a fight is less of an option for you...
Hell yeah! Keep working!!
Each to their own, but I'd say switch your stance up a little so you're not twisting your body in akward positions.
100% I'm definitely bending around the rifle and not shooting from a natural body position.
You never face up range loaded! Idiots
This whole videos is fantastic for showing all the major differences I was looking for like lengths and weight, even in grams! You're a man of the people!
Looks like blue trail range 💪🏻
Can confirm the range in the first few minutes was Blue Trail. It's a great public range and I've only had good experiences with the staff. Second range one was a private one at an undisclosed location.
Nice explanation, thank you
So why use a number 4 and go through the trouble of having to cut more off the feed ramp. Why not just use the barrel link that your suppose to use instead.
Because tolerance stacking. This frame started its life as an 80% and I drilled the slide release hole and cut the rails. On top of that, both the barrel and slide were not drop-in parts, so there was quite a bit of fitting that needed to take place before I got to the barrel link. Proper lock-up and barrel centering to the breach face is much more important than avoiding having to cut the barrel feed ramp. Did the work years ago and it's been flawless since. I even had this gun at the range this past weekend and posted a short on my channel. Let me know if you see anything in the slow-mo that concerns you.

Are you shooting ever without concentrating ?
Not as much as I should. That day I did a drill where I'm walking perpendicular to the target, and then draw from concealment and shoot one round (without stopping movement). First time I tried shooting on the move my fundamentals fell apart. What you can do in an unstressed environment while concentrating is the very best you can hope for while working on more advanced skills.
I want a red dot now.

I know next to nothing about suppressors and muzzle devices as I am trying to educate myself. I believe the Reaeden Muzzle devices and Atlas use the Plan B ecosystem. The Plan B system seems to be a cost effective, simple to use, and widely supported system. The KeyMod system seems more complicated to use and you have to double check to see if you actually have properly tighten the suppressor. Once again I have little experience, but I'm looking for others perspective and experience before I purchase a suppressor/muzzle device.
That's my takeaway as well. The KeyMo has a place, and is definitely more "quick" than the Atlas (which uses the Plan B). I am guessing a lot of the misalignment issues people have noted come from people either not gingerly cranking the suppressor into place or from the collar not being in the correct starting position prior to starting the process. Regarding cost, I can sell my KeyMo adapter second-hand (keeping the muzzle devices) and use the funds to buy both a rearden muzzle device and Atlas new. Haven't sold my KeyMo yet as I might want to use it on a K can down the line, but it's a substantial difference. But the biggest complaint I had was simply weight differences between the two.
My PCR came with two 15 round double stack magazines
